Conduct research on forestry policy, forest resource and ecosystem dynamics, Community Forest (CF) and Private Forest (PF), forest management, Non-Wood Forest Produce (NWFP), dendrochronology, forest pests and diseases, climate change impacts, forest biometrics, and wood anatomy.
Provide training on CF and PF management, sustainable timber management and utilization, NWFP management and utilization, forestry resource assessment, forest-based enterprises, and wood technology.
Develop and disseminate forest science technologies.
Conduct domestication research trials of high-value forest produce.
Provide scientific advice to the Management Authority as per the Forest and Nature Conservation Act (FNCA), as per the requirements of the CITES.
Co-supervise BSc., MSc. and PhD students in forestry science.
Maintain herbaria, ethnobotany museum, biomass, and dendrochronology laboratory.
Schedule and make operational plans for the Professional Certificate/National Certificate program.
Offer thematic professional training at the institute.
Organise and coordinate research seminars and conferences on national, regional, and international issues related to forestry and environmental science.
Coordinate international, regional, and national education and research exchange programs.
Coordinate BSc, MSc, PhD and internship programs in forestry and conservation science.
