Prakash Rai (Sr. Forestry Officer)

I completed my B.Sc. in Life Sciences from Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan, and my M.Sc. in Forestry from the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, India.

My main interest lies in understanding how ecosystem services contribute to human well-being, particularly by placing a monetary value on the benefits we receive from nature. I am also deeply fascinated by wildlife; studying their behavior and exploring how they are connected to people culturally, economically, and ecologically.

I strongly believe in the adoption of modern technologies to make conservation work more effective and of higher quality. Alongside my research, I regularly conduct trainings to share knowledge with aspiring foresters and conservationists.

Some of the important projects I undertook while at the Institute are:

  • Distribution and conservation of Corvids in Bhutan.

  • Ecosystem services valuation of the Chamkharchhu basin.

  • Ecosystem services valuation of the Protected Area Network of Bhutan.
