Second Series of M3B Training Successfully Conducted

The second series of 'Measuring and Monitoring Mountain Biodiversity' training on Birds was successfully conducted by the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE), LamaiGoempa, Bumthang. The training was conducted at Royal Manas National Park (RMNP), Gelephu, from 1st to 13th December 2014, by experts from UWICE.

The main objective of this training was to impart knowledge and experience for implementing scientifically credible bird diversity monitoring programs in the Himalayan region.Twenty-five participants from Parks and Territorial Divisions attended the training.

The training emphasized:

  1. Bird identification, visually and acoustically
  2. Bird capture (mist netting), morphometric measurement and banding
  3. Standard bird survey methods (field and data analysis)

The two-week workshop included both hands-on and theoretical training and was concluded on 13th December 2014 with awarding of certificates.
