First SFS-Bhutan Semester Program Begins

A group of 21 undergraduate students from the United States of America (USA) arrived in Bhutan today (7 September 2015) to attend a 3-month's semester program in Bhutan. The Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE) and the School for Field Studies (SFS) jointly hosts an interdisciplinary field based course on Himalayan Environment and Society in Transition. During the program, students will undertake three main courses:

  1. Political and Socioeconomic Dimensions of Environment;
  2. Mountain Ecology;
  3. Land Use, Natural Resources, and Conservation.

The students will also carry out directed field research and learn about Bhutan’s religion and culture.
