The Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environmental Research (UWICER) is hosting a two weeks training on determining environmental flow for hydropower projects in Bhutan. The National Environment Commission Secretariat(NECS)  is organizing the training to build institutional capacity of partner stakeholders such as Bhutan Electricity Authority(BEA), National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology(NCHM), National Research Centre for Riverine and Lake Fisheries(NRCR&LF), Druk Green Power Cooperation (DGPC), Department of Hydropower Services (DHPS) and UWICER.

The task force members from these agencies will undertake take a study in the dewatered stretch of Mangdechu hydropower project in Trongsa to determine minimum environmental flow requirement. Environmental flow is a required amount of water that should be left to flow in the natural course of the river to support ecological and social services. The Water Act and Regulations of Bhutan requires every hydropower to have environmental flow.
