TRAINING OF COMMUNITY FOREST EXECUTIVE MEMBERS IN SIXTEEN DZONGKHAGS OF BHUTAN: A BRIEF REPORT

News | Posted on 2024-06-11

The UWIFoRT conducted a preliminary study on the Community Forest Program in the country. One of the biggest challenges faced by the Community Forest Management Groups that came out of the study was the lack of capacity for maintenance of proper records to keep track of Community Forestry activities in their respective Community Forest jurisdictions.

With the objective of providing the CFMG executive members with the necessary knowledge for proper management and maintenance of CF books and records. Laying particular emphasis on forest resources utilization and financial transaction records, UWIFoRT initiated record keeping training for Executive Members of the Community Forests of the sixteen Dzongkhags.

The training was conducted between September
, 2023 to June, 2024. In total, 23 record keeping training sessions were conducted across the sixteen Dzongkhags to cater to the broad geographical distribution of community forests. A total of 589 participants attended these sessions, with women comprising 19 percent of the attendees.

The majority of participants passed on the feedback of conducting regular training sessions and suggested inviting more executive members in the future.

The training funded by the Asian Forest Cooperation Organisation (AFoCO) was successfully imparted.
