Second series of Training on Bhutan Phenology Observation

A three-day training (2-4 Feb, 2015) on Bhutan Phenology Observation is underway in Phuntsholing. A total of 30 participants comprising of school focal teachers and principals from 17 schools are attending the training. The training is organized by the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE), Lamai Goempa, Bumthang as part of HEROES (Himalayan Environmental Rhythms Observation and Evaluation Systems) project.

The training is conducted with an objective to build capacity for the focal teachers of schools taking part in phenology project. It is also the platform for all the focal teachers, principals and the project coordinator to present their progress, discuss and find the solutions for the challenges faced while implementing the project in schools.

The Bhutan Phenology Observation program was initiated by the UWICE in collaboration with Department of School Education, Ministry of Education (MoE) in 2014. The objective of the program is to study the possible impact of climate change on phenology of selected species. The training also serves as a common platform for sharing information on climate change and its impact among scientists, researchers, educationist and citizens.

The project is funded by US based Karuna Foundation through Bhutan Foundation.
