A group of 26 students, all nature club members, from Gyelpozhing Higher Secondary School earned themselves a chance to go on an environmental expedition after they won 2014’s Bhutan Phenology observation conducted by UWICE. They are accompanied by two focal teachers.

The expedition aims to educate, inspire and empower the younger generation, the leaders of tomorrow, to love and appreciate the environment and biodiversity around them.

The expedition began on the first of this month where the participants were taken to the Thrumshingla National Park for botanization. Today, they attended inspirational environmental talks by the UWICE faculties at the UWICE Daphne Hall. They were also taken around to visit the UWICE Museum, plant display and wildlife corner at the Dzong courtyard. Towards the evening, a dinner was hosted where they interacted with the researchers and faculties of UWICE. The students also performed cultural dances.

They will now be headed towards western Bhutan, where they will carry out activities such as botanization, bird watching, trekking and some cultural tours.
