SFS Students Research Symposium, Thimphu
SFS (The School for Field Studies) -Bhutan Fall Program Research Symposium 2016 was held in Thimphu on 5th December 2016 at the Hotel Migmar to present the findings of directed field research carried out by SFS students during their 3 month semester program period in Bhutan.
Twenty four undergraduate students from 21 different universities/colleges of the USA have been undertaking the semester course on ‘Himalayan Environment and Society in Transition’ at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE), Bumthang since September 2016. The students have carried out field research related to biodiversity assessment, conservation and rural livelihoods, and tourism and environment under Choekhor and Ura geogs of Bumthang.
The symposium was attended by heads and representatives of various departments of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, and other relevant agencies. Dr. Pema Wangda who is currently a officiating Director of the Department of Forests and Park Services presided over the Symposium had congratulated all SFS students for successfully completing the Semester program in Bhutan and also expressed his deep appreciation for the research carried out by the students within a short span of time that are very informative and useful for building up future research.
The students will be leaving Bhutan back to their home country on 7th December 2016.
