Fall Semester SFS Research Symposium
The Research Symposium for the fall semester SFS (The School for Field Studies)-Bhutan program was held on 30th November, 2016 at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE), Lamai Goempa, Bumthang. 24 undergraduate students from various universities of the United States of America (USA) have presented their findings from directed research carried out during their three months semester program. The programme on interdisciplinary field based course on Himalayan Environment and Society in Transition was jointly hosted by the UWICE and the SFS. The students besides learning about Bhutan's language and culture have carried out field research related to forests, biodiversity and rural livelihoods under Choekhor and Tang gewogs of Bumthang.
The symposium was attended by the officials from different regional sectors, local government of Bumthang and the faculties of UWICE.
SFS is an independent educational organization based in United States of America. SFS organizes field-based study courses for young students to develop citizens with environmental literacy and to promote and protect sustainability of the world’s natural resources. The first SFS programme (6 weeks long) in Bhutan was introduced in 2010 and this is the second semester program successfully completed in collaboration with UWICE.
The similar symposium will be held in Thimphu to presents their findings from directed research to audience from different departments of MoAF.
