The Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment Research (UWICER) observed the certificate awarding ceremony of the nature guide trainees today. The ceremony was graced by the Honorable Director of the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS). Also in attendance were the Chief Forestry Officers from Wangchuck Centennial National Park, Phrumsengla National Park and Bumthang Territorial Forest Division, and the staff of UWICER, including the professional forester trainees.

The Director started off his keynote address by thanking His Majesty for protecting the citizens during the global pandemic. In his address, he highlighted the importance of tourism being one of the top revenue generators for the country and told that they are now the ambassadors of promoting environmental conservation. He encouraged them to build on the skills gained during the training and come forward as resource persons in the future nature guide training. The Director awarded certificates to the nature guide trainees on the course completion and voluntary service recognitions.

The training was conducted with fund support from the Department of Technical Education, Ministry of Labour and Human Resources, for 37 culture and trekking guides (33 males and 4 females) under the Skill Development Plan. During the course of the training, they underwent a rigorous two-month training, which included theory classes conducted at UWICER, Lamai Goempa and field practical conducted at different nature hotspots.

The Honorable Director also met with the staff and professional forester trainees of the Institute.
