With the financial assistance from Bhutan Ecological Society, Bhutan Foundation, Royal Society for the Protection of Nature, World Wildlife Fund, Bhutan For Life and Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation, the UWIFoRT Institute proudly celebrated World Ranger Day today, honouring the dedication and bravery of rangers who protect our natural heritage. The event was marked by a ceremonial cake cutting and inspiring speeches that highlighted the experiences and contributions of rangers in the field.
The ceremony began with a heartfelt address by Dr. Kaka Tshering, Head Specialist of UWIFoRT, who underscored the importance of rangers in safeguarding biodiversity and ensuring the sustainability of our ecosystems. Following the Head Specialist’s speech, Specialists Kado Tshering and Shacha Dorji, PFO Tiger Sangay and Butterfly expert Karma Wangdi took the stage to share their personal journeys, recounting the challenges and rewards of their careers.
The highlight of the event was the offering of butter lamps to celebrate posthumously, achievements and sacrifices made by fallen rangers worldwide and for the safety of incumbent and future rangers.
Among the attendees were Forestry Trainees, Admin Staff and the Faculty of UWIFoRT.
Today, we celebrate not just the rangers, but the spirit of conservation they embody.
