UWIFoRT Forces join Chamkhar River Cleanup Campaign Intiative
In a collaborative effort to preserve the pristine beauty of the
Chamkhar River basin, 45 staff members, forester trainees, and families from
the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Forestry Research and Training participated
in a comprehensive river cleaning campaign today. The initiative was organized
following the directives of the Dzongkhag Administration, Bumthang, to address
waste accumulation in the region.
Waste
was collected from key areas, including two streams near the Institute campus,
stream buffers, the highway connecting the Institute to the main town, nearby
forests, and the Lamaithang community. The Institute’s team was joined by
residents from Lamaithang and staff from the Dzongkhag Administration,
demonstrating strong community spirit and environmental stewardship.
A
total of 700
kilograms of waste were gathered during the campaign and
transported to the landfill using the Institute’s tractor. The collective
effort highlights the importance of community involvement in maintaining clean
and sustainable ecosystems.
The
Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Forestry Research and Training extends its
gratitude to all participants and reaffirms its commitment to environmental
conservation and community engagement. Such initiatives play a vital role in protecting
Bhutan’s natural heritage for future generations.
