The Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Forestry Research and Training (UWIFoRT) successfully concluded a five-day workshop focused on the analysis of Ecosystem Services Valuation (ESV) data. This workshop, held from June 2nd to June 6th, represents the second phase of a critical initiative to compile and analyze data that will underpin the sustainable management of Bhutan's rich natural resources.
The workshop brought together 37 officials, including 30 male and 7 female participants, from the country's protected area network and UWIFoRT. The primary focus of the workshop was the validation and preparation of data for the Travel Cost Method (TCM) analysis. This method is instrumental in estimating the recreational and cultural value of Bhutan's pristine parks and protected areas. By understanding the economic contributions of tourism and recreation, policymakers can make better informed decisions on conservation and development.
Participants also dedicated significant effort to compiling and refining data on timber and other surface collections. This information is crucial for creating a comprehensive picture of the provisioning services that Bhutan's ecosystems provide to its people, supporting livelihoods and contributing to the national economy.
The workshop was held at UWIFoRT, Lamai Goempa with funding support from the Bhutan for Life Project.
